Some photography sessions are extra special because of the people in front of my camera, and this one definitely was.


The W family was once my neighbor, so getting to photograph their extended family was such a fun full-circle moment. There is something really special about photographing people you've known for years and getting to see how their families have grown and changed.


Extended family photography can sometimes feel intimidating. There are more people, more personalities, and usually at least a few little ones who aren't particularly interested in standing still for pictures. But those are often the sessions where the most meaningful images happen.


For this Spanish Fork family photography session, we focused on capturing both the whole family together and the smaller relationships within the group. Grandparents with grandchildren, parents with their kids, siblings together, and all of those little connections in between are what make an extended family session meaningful.

Spanish Fork is a beautiful location for extended family photos, especially during the fall. The natural scenery provides plenty of variety without requiring families to spend the entire session traveling from one location to another.


When choosing a location for an extended family session, I look for places that give us room to move around, good natural light, and opportunities for both large group portraits and smaller family combinations.


My goal is always to make family photography feel less like a checklist of poses and more like spending time together while I happen to have a camera in my hands.


I'm so grateful the W family trusted me to document this season for them. Getting to photograph former neighbors and see the people they've become is one of those little reminders of why I love this job so much.
